Bella's eyes update

Just a quick update: Bella has been doing absolutely wonderful this week! NO TRANSFUSIONS!!!! Last week she had THREE! Her platelet numbers are a little low but not low enough to transfuse. Dr. Shen hopes it recovers on it's on in the next few days. With this being said, since her platelet transfusion is a little low, her hospital admission is being postponed. She was supposed to check in on Tuesday 2/21 but instead she will get blood work done again to see if her platelets have recovered. The new admission date is tentatively scheduled for 2/23.

I never got back to you all about Bella's eye appointment. Well it didn't goes as we had hoped. I guess we were hoping for a miracle. All inflammation is finally gone from the hydrocephalus. This is a good thing but at the same time, it shows that Bella's right eye has no more hope to get better. Her optic nerve is grey, meaning that the cells are dead. All she can see in her right eye is light. If you cover her left eye, she has no idea that an object is in front of her. As far as her left eye, they doesn't appear to be much improvement yet. Dr. Sami is optimistic about this eye but he also said to be realistic. This eye cannot see all that well but she is able to get around. With how poor her eyesight is, it's amazing that she gets around as well as she does. She is usually holding my hand though if we are out in public. Most of her school work I retype in a 46-50 font in bold black letters for her to read. Also she has no depth perception. When the side walk dips for wheel chair access, she has no idea and she will stumble. With no real eyesight in her right eye, and little eyesight in her right eye with no depth perception, this means that there will be no driving in her future. At this time there is no surgery to help Bella. Hopefully in 10 or 15 years???!!!

This week Bella had so much fun! She received lots of Valentines mail, lunch with Wendy, Valentine's party at Calvary Christian School with her class and just fun being able to walk around in public without a mask!

Thank you all for always keeping us in your prayers and thoughts! We are so thankful! Days are always fun to spend so much time with the kiddos but once the house is quiet and your mind takes over, it gets really hard. Thank you for your messages. They help us so much get through each day.

Love Val
